Tell us about Layla's artwork.

Layla loves to draw portraits. Her art generally tells a story and illustrates action, motion, and emotional reactions. Her works are imaginative, detailed, and beautifully capture movement. She loves to draw, but also paints and likes to create things with found materials from around the house and nature. While her art is expressive, she also uses it to bring joy to other others. Layla often creates gifts for other people with flowers, vegetation, paper, and other objects from around the home.

Who or what inspires Layla to create?

While Layla has been an artistic kid from the time she was a toddler, art has also become a creative outlet for her to heal from significant traumas she endured at ages 5-6. She endured having to give repeated testimony as a crime victim, and spent over a year in therapy while a criminal investigation was ongoing. Her amazing therapist incorporated art therapy throughout their time together. Layla’s art helped her heal, but now she continues to create because it brings joy to her and others.

What is Layla's favorite art form?

Layla loves to draw using pen/pencil and paper, but has recently started to also work on creating digital art using a drawing app on her iPad. Her artwork is often narrative, but also incorporates her love of fashion. She often draws models in unique fashion looks and then will try to recreate those outfits in real life.
