Which young artist will display their work in a museum, appear on The Joy of Painting, and win $20,000?
Learn MoreIan is inspired by quirky everyday objects, film and TV. They love a good vampire or scary movie and an old sole when it comes to loving the classics from the 80s and 90s. The often see an ordinary object and turn it into a work of art. From a punking out a found hat and bleach painting shirts to crafting cardboard from the recycle bin into a whimsical mushroom hat. They will hold up in their room for hours and emerge later with an amazing piece of art!
Who or what inspires Ian to create?Ian loves 80s and 90s movies and the imagery and storytelling of Tim Burton, del Toro, Peter Jackson, Wes Anderson, the Coen brothers and John Hughes. They also enjoy modern animation (Gravity Falls, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, and anything that Alex Hirsch touches) along with the classics (Beetlejuice 1989 and Batman 92-95). When not watching the classics, they ideate and draft concepts on their sketch pad and like a glue gun wizard, they concoct the most amazing creations!
What is Ian's favorite art form? They love to sketch and color with pencils and alcohol markers, but that is where a larger creation usually takes form. While still using their ipdad for digital artforms, and photography, they love physical art they can touch and build with their hands. Still only 15, they love to dabble, exploring everting from sculpture and music to painting, sketching, sewing and beadwork.
