Which young artist will display their work in a museum, appear on The Joy of Painting, and win $20,000?
Learn MoreHe is a true natural creative. He designs full "cities" in his room using magnatiles or crafts and fills our home with his handmade drawings and buildings. He recently drew Jack Skellington's different expressions from Nightmare Before Christmas and displayed them in his room. He constructs birds & other animals using feathers, styrofoam, tape, & paper. At just 3 years old, he built (& named) over a dozen robots from recycled materials, each completely on his own. He LOVES naming his creations.
Who or what inspires Guillermo to create? When I asked him, he said he creates the things he loves because he wants to make them himself. I believe he's inspired by the artistry in movies and music, & simply by his own imagination. My mom is a teacher at his school, and every day he independently creates something before coming home, a robot or other creation, painting, or drawing. He naturally gravitates toward art and would rather do that than be glued to a phone tablet or even TV, choosing to build and create in his free time.
What is Guillermo's favorite art form?Building comes most naturally to him. Since around age 3, he has independently followed Lego and marble run instructions and designed original Magnatile structures. He can focus for hours, thoughtfully constructing and refining his ideas. While he enjoys crafts and drawing, I believe his strongest artistic expression is through building where creativity, problem-solving, and imagination all come together for him.
