Eliza

At just 11, I’m convinced Eliza has already spent well over 10,000 hours on art. It’s not just what she does, but who she is. She creates.

Tell us about Eliza's artwork.

Eliza sees everything from a unique perspective -- the colors that stand out in an every day scene, the angles of basic objects, light and shadow, and everything in three-dimensional vision (she sees every side and how it comes together to form something). This is what stands out in her art. She almost never uses a pencil, instead drawing everything from her mind in pen the first time. She can just see exactly what needs to go where. She also loves to paint, and doesn't sketch it first.

Who or what inspires Eliza to create?

Eliza is inspired by anyone and everything -- a book, another artist, a place we visit, an idea, a game she played, a toy, or her favorite...cats! She has always been extremely observant. She'll watch something closely, and the next thing you know, you're finding her with paper and pen sketching the scene but with her own twists. Mostly she's inspired to create simply by her innate need to be creative and her endless imagination. a pencil, she's rarely been found without a pencil in hand.

What is Eliza's favorite art form?

Eliza can't choose between drawing/sketching, painting (either watercolor or acrylic), and building 3D objects out of unexpected materials. She definitely spends her most time drawing, and it was her first love!
