Alice

She learned to paint at 8 from Bob Ross videos on YT. As her dad, nothing amazes me more than watching her brain light up when she paints.

Tell us about Alice's artwork.

I'm an oil painter. I mostly do landscapes. My favorite thing to paint is mountains and water. I started one random Saturday morning just because it seemed interesting, and I never stopped. I kept getting better and I loved how it made me feel. Something about capturing nature on canvas just makes me feel good. When I'm stressed or upset, painting puts me in a better place. My brain works differently when I'm creating. And seeing people's reactions to what I make just makes me feel so good.

Who or what inspires Alice to create?

Bob Ross is my first and biggest inspiration. I found him on YT when I was 8 and havent stopped watching since. He made painting not scary for me. My favorite part is when he talks about 'happy little accidents', it taught me that mistakes are okay. That gives me confidence to try things and see what happens. I also love when people ask me to paint something. Right now Im working on a landscape of Mordor for my dad, Mount Doom, Barad-dûr, and the plains. It's the hardest thing I've ever done.

What is Alice's favorite art form?

By now you can probably tell I want to be a landscape painter. It's what makes me the happiest. I started out using acrylics because they were easier to learn with, but over the past year I've been working on my wet on wet technique. I got The Joy of Painting book for Christmas and I've been practicing. One of my favorite things is blending colors. Wet-on-wet lets me do that in ways acrylics can't. I'm still learning but I can see myself getting better, and that keeps me wanting to paint more.
